Operating theatre
We have a dedicated sterile operating theatre, where pets undergo all sterile operations under a general anaesthetic.
Here the team of vets and nurses are dressed in operating tunics and sterile operating gowns. As well as surgical hats, masks and theatre clogs.
State of the art anaesthetic monitoring equipment is used to help monitor the condition of your pet. Trained staff and monitoring equipment help to reduce the risks associated with anaesthesia. We monitor the heart rate and breathing rate, the ECG, the blood pressure, the level of oxygen and level of carbon dioxide and core body temperature in our patients when they are anaesthetised.
For complicated anaesthetics we have respiratory ventilators that can help regulate or take over a patients breathing if required. These are especially useful when performing open chest surgery!
Modern electrocautery techniques (use of heated probes to stop bleeding) are used as standard and this dramatically reduces the number of post operative bleeds from tissue. This practice is commonly used in humans tends to be forgotten about for pets.
A large suction unit is also available to remove large volumes of various fluids from surgical sites.
Orthopaedic implants and external fixators can be dealt with onsite.
We are able to offer referral surgery with Mr R White BSc (Hons), BVetMed, MRCVS, CertVA, DSAS (Soft Tissue), DipECVS, RCVS, Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (Soft Tissue), European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. He is recognised throughout Europe as a specialist surgeon and will visit the practice to perform the more complex soft tissue surgeries when requested.
