Microchipping

It is a legal requirement that all dogs must wear a collar and a tag with the name and address of the owner. Feldon recommends microchipping all pets that venture outside; unlike a tag and collar it can never fall off, or be changed without your consent. A microchip is the only permanent form of identification that is recognised by the Pet passport system.

Virtually any pet can be fitted with a chip - including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, snakes, parrots, fish (e.g. Koi carp) and even tortoises.

Feldon Veterinary Centre offers a 15% discount to ‘HPS’ members on the price of a microchip implant.

Once implanted vets, RSPCA inspectors, dog wardens, animal shelters and police can quickly scan your pet and discover their unique number. This number will allow access to a database giving your details and then you can be reunited with your pet.

The microchip itself is remarkably small, roughly the size of a grain of rice. Implanting is very quick and relatively painless, no sedation or anaesthetic is necessary. The chip will last the lifetime of your pet!

For further information or queries on getting your pet microchipped at Feldon, please speak to your vet or one of the healthcare nursing team.
