Fireworks season is almost upon us – act now to help your furry friends cope with this stressful time, don’t leave it until the last minute. There are many ways to help your pets during firework season and our friendly team of fully qualified Registered Veterinary Nurses are on hand to help you. We can provide advice on how you can help your pet to feel more safe and secure around the house and explain the benefits of using certain calming products to assist at stressful times.
One of the easiest things you can do is to create a den for your pet in your house. Using a crate and blankets you can make a safe space in the centre of your house, away from external doors and windows. Blankets help to muffle the sounds of fireworks and reduce any visual effects and adding some comfy cushions or their bed will help them to feel more secure.
Products like Adaptil, Feliway and Zylkene can be used to help alleviate the stress experienced. Adaptil and Feliway are synthetic copies of pheromones that help to make dogs and cats feel more secure and settled, and Zylkene is a natural product derived from a protein found in milk which helps promote relaxation.
Book an appointment with one of our nurses for more information and advice on how and when to use these products.
