A recent UK-wide research study has shown that of 15,000 dogs examined, almost one third were carrying ticks. Ticks carry diseases that can not only affect dogs, but humans too, and this recent research shows that they are more prevalent around the UK than previously acknowledged.
Data gathered by veterinary practices across the UK and analysed at Bristol University showed that it is almost as likely that a tick can be picked up in an urban area such as a park or garden, as a rural area, although there are still hotspots around the UK where the chances of picking one up are far higher. In addition to this the study also found that the numbers of ticks have increased in the UK in recent years.
